UNDERSKY is a futuristic and historical immersive installation depicting terrestrial ocean flora and fauna long after humanity’s departure for the stars. Created by Tara Rose Morris (visuals) and Graham Steinman (sound), the work uses reinterpreted public-domain scientific illustrations within recreated ecosystems.
It presents a mediated nature confronted with ecological destruction, drawing on the tradition of immersive art and its aspect of scientific spectacle. Developed in residence with CSV and MAPP MTL, the work was previewed in two live performances during Canada’s Ocean Week.
Made as part of MANYBIRDS, the audiovisual collaboration between Tara Rose Morris and composer Graham Steinman.
